Domestic violence remains a serious issue in America. The statistics can be staggering. According to The National Domestic Violence Hotline, there are twenty four victims of rape or physical violence or stalking every minute in the United States. Almost one in every three women and 10 percent of males have experienced physical violence or rape in their life. A recent incident in College Township, Pennsylvania, reminds us that the problem is real, and that the issue is taken very seriously by authorities.
Last Tuesday night, police responded to a call regarding a man at his ex-girlfriend’s home. The man, who had recently broken up with his ex, allegedly kicked down a door after a 20 to 30 minute exchange outside the home on the porch. The man wanted to speak with his ex who refused to let him inside. He eventually broke down the door and entered, while the woman and her roommate ran upstairs and locked themselves in a bedroom.
When the man started banging on the bedroom door, she called the police. The man left, but was eventually charged with felony criminal trespass, misdemeanor disorderly conduct and misdemeanor criminal mischief.
For anyone accused of such charges, a guilty conviction could be met with substantial prison time and other penalties which could affect a person’s down the road, including limitations on a person’s future job. It is important for anyone facing such charges to have a strong criminal defense team at the suspect’s side to fight the charges and work on behalf of the accused to come up with a favorable outcome.
